It Was Already Written: The Power of College Friendships

With sincerity, support, and unconditional love lies the wonderful gift of friendship, and it’s comforting to know that I will always have my girls. Throughout the many phases of my life, what are the odds I’d be so lucky to find a group of women who speak to my soul? Learning to navigate the world in your early twenties is far from easy, and really, nothing seems to make sense. But one thing is for certain: those who you choose to surround yourself with will take you great lengths through these times of confusion. I grew to think perhaps this friendship and the many amazing women I met in my collegiate journey were already written in the stars. To know that I would go on to select Hampton University as my new home by the sea for the next four years of my life, I would’ve never imagined the divine friendship I would find within my very first friends, Morgan and Lauryn. We just made sense!

It felt like fate knowing three girls from Jersey would be traveling eight hours from home to find their transition into Hampton a bit lighter because we always knew we had each other. Through dorm move-ins to first apartment welcome parties, these girls were and still are at the forefront of what experiencing girlhood in our early twenties truly looked like. Whether it’s a girls’ night, dinner date, or random check-in, we always knew we could call on each other in times of triumph. I found sisterhood in the walls of Twitchell Hall and beyond freshman year when Lauryn and I first became the iconic inseparable roomies everyone knows us as. My best friend turned sister was fate and a gift by the grace of God.

“The three fairies,” we called ourselves, as we learned what friendship, love, and learning who we want to become together are the stories that we’ll forever hold onto. Memories trapped inside disposable cameras and photo albums, which we will go on to show our future families. This is what the epitome of girlhood was and still continues to be. I like to think that finding these girls was already written in the stars, like fate waiting to happen. Just three girls from Jersey somehow ending up in Hampton, Virginia, as if we’d known each other for years. In meeting them, I knew that through it all, I’ll always have a piece of home with me. There’s truly nothing like my girls! ❤
